AT&T hit with lawsuit over remote work, disability, age bias
December 8, 2025 | Source: HRD America
ATandT is facing new allegations that its return-to-office push sidelined a long-time remote worker with disabilities, age and gender discrimination claims in tow. In a case filed on Dec. 5, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Eastern Division, former ATandT Enterprises, LLC employee Kimberly Wall sets out how a mandatory return-to-office policy, layered over long-standing medical issues, allegedly led to the end of her employment. Wall, who lives in Wilmington, N.C., says she joined ATandT on or about August 12, 2002, as a call center representative and was later promoted to a Lead role, including in project management and development…
RTD sued by Colorado disability group over cuts to Access on Demand program
December 8, 2025 | Source: CBS Colorado
The Regional Transportation District is being sued in federal court over cuts to a program that provides door-to-door service for Coloradans with disabilities, arguing it violates the Americans with Disabilities Act, Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, and the rights of people with disabilities. Attorneys for the plaintiffs are hoping a judge puts a stop to the changes to Access on Demand before the Jan. 1, 2026 implementation. On Sept. 30, RTD’s board of directors voted to start charging $4.50 for the previously free program and reduce hours of service, citing increased costs…
Disney changed the disability policies for their parks. Here’s what to know
December 8, 2025 | Source: People
Changes that Disney made to a popular program that lets qualifying disabled people skip long lines at its California and Florida theme parks are too restrictive, disabled fans contend in a federal lawsuit and shareholder proposal that seek to expand eligibility. The battle over who can skip long lines on popular rides because of their disabilities marks the latest struggle by Disney to accommodate disabled visitors while cracking down on past abuses. But some Disney fans say the company has gone too far and has no right to determine who is disabled…

Housing shortage for Vermonters with disabilities spurs call for funding
December 2, 2025 | Source: Vermont Public
As Beth Davis and her husband move further into their 70s, they’re reckoning with the practicality of life in their home in Shoreham. “We’re getting older, you know?” Davis said. “We’re starting to have issues that old people have — physical, mental.” It’s not their own housing situation they’re most concerned about, however. Rather it’s what happens to their 43-year-old son when they can no longer provide the supportive housing environment he needs. The shortage of housing for the 3,400 Vermont adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who qualify for supportive living arrangements is about to get worse as the parents many of them live with grow older…
Missouri bill targets ADA website lawsuits impacting small businesses
December 4, 2025 | Source: KMBC
Missouri state Rep. Brian Seitz filed House Bill 1674 this week: the Act Against Abusive Website Access Litigation. This is the first of its kind in the state, and it aims to prevent lawsuits against scores of small businesses for website noncompliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. “Some small businesses here in our southwest region contacted me. They were concerned that this was happening to other businesses in other places in the state,” Seitz said. The bill allows a defendant 30 days to correct their websites in good faith without penalty, and the option to file a civil suit against those threatening litigation…
After Alice Wong’s Death, Her Friends Vow to Keep Fighting for Disability Justice
December 8, 2025 | Source: KQED
With a smile, Brittanie Hernandez-Wilson, 38, closes her eyes when she says her friend’s name. She pauses. A tear rolls down her cheek. “There’s a real level of rage that I feel around Alice’s death,” she said. It’s been a month since disability activist and author Alice Wong died in San Francisco. Since her passing, KQED has spoken with many of Wong’s friends and collaborators in the Bay Area to better understand what motivated her decades of organizing. In her writings and public appearances, Wong spoke of the need for disabled people to advocate loudly for their health needs…
Fresno native with rare disorder fights for life changing wheelchair insurance won’t cover
December 8, 2025 | Source: Fox 26
After years of being misdiagnosed, Central Valley native Aly Corvin finally has a name for the pain that has shaped her entire life. “I was born with a handful of disabilities and I’ve acquired some on the way,” Corvin says. “But I do have what a lot of people call EDS and Co.” Corvin lives with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a group of rare connective tissue disorders caused by faulty collagen. The condition leads to overly stretchy skin, fragile tissues and hypermobile joints that dislocate easily: something Corvin experiences every day…
Lawler, Correa Unveil ADA Reform to Boost Access and Protect Small Businesses
December 9, 2025 | Source: Congressman Mike Lawler
Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) and Congressman Lou Correa (CA-46) announced the introduction of bipartisan legislation to ensure ADA violations are quickly rectified to provide renewed access for disabled individuals and protect all parties involved from drawn-out litigation. Specifically, the ADA 30 Days to Comply Act will create a process for disabled individuals to notify business directly about ADA violations, allowing these entities a 30-day remediation window to address the issue or show significant progress if a longer period is needed…
Maryland reaches settlement with Cracker Barrel over claims of discrimination against disabled students
December 9, 2025 | Source: CBS News and WJLA and People
Maryland secured a settlement with the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurant chain after a Charles County location allegedly discriminated against a group of students with disabilities, according to Attorney General Anthony Brown. The settlement, which totals nearly $101,000, comes after a group of 11 special education students from Dr. James Craik Elementary School visited the Waldorf location in December 2024 as part of a program to practice social and life skills. During their visit, teachers claimed the group was mistreated and experienced delays due to the students’ disabilities…
At State Dept., a Typeface Falls Victim in the War Against Woke
December 9, 2025 | Source: New York Times and FindArticles and VitalLaw and ABC and NPR and Fast Company and TechCrunch and Daring Fireball and Axios
Secretary of State Marco Rubio waded into the surprisingly fraught politics of typefaces on Tuesday with an order halting the State Department’s official use of Calibri, reversing a 2023 Biden-era directive that Mr. Rubio called a “wasteful” sop to diversity. While mostly framed as a matter of clarity and formality in presentation, Mr. Rubio’s directive to all diplomatic posts around the world blamed “radical” diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility programs for what he said was a misguided and ineffective switch from the serif typeface Times New Roman to sans serif Calibri in official department paperwork…
Lawyers say new CDC policy may violate federal disability law
December 10, 2025 | Source: Roll Call
Employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say a Trump administration policy change is making it nearly impossible for agency staff with disabilities to access telework as a reasonable accommodation. Political appointees at the agency are repealing previously approved reasonable accommodation requests as the agency implements a new Health and Human Services policy for those with disabilities, according to documents and internal communications obtained by CQ Roll Call. Legal experts who reviewed the policy change say it may circumvent requirements that federal employers provide a reasonable accommodation to employees with a disability unless it causes an “undue hardship” on the agency…
Columbus GalaxyCon attendees angered over accessibility
December 11, 2025 | Source: NBC4
Outrage has been pouring in after last weekend’s GalaxyCon Columbus, with attendees voicing concerns about overcrowding and inaccessibility. “It’s just a total display of a lack of care and empathy for other people and it’s unbelievable,” said Oleander Seals, who attended GalaxyCon Columbus, an annual pop culture convention. Seals said he attended all three days of GalaxyCon and that he was able to bring in his cane the first two days, but on Sunday, security collapsed the cane and zip-tied it so that it could not be used…
Citing improvements, judge ends oversight of MBTA accessibility
December 11, 2025 | Source: WBUR News and WGBH and MassLive
After almost two decades of court-ordered scrutiny and mandated reforms, the MBTA is preparing to close the book on one of the most sweeping accessibility agreements in U.S. transit — and to hand the watchdog role to riders themselves. In a statement Wednesday, the T said that “after 19 years of steady improvements … the MBTA has fulfilled a substantial amount of its obligations under the 2006 Joanne Daniels-Finegold, et al. v. Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Settlement Agreement. As a result, court-appointed independent monitor Judge Patrick King will conclude his oversight role.”…
ADA compliance lawsuits hit Central Florida businesses, raising concerns about accessibility and legal challenges
December 11, 2025 | Source: ClickOrlando
Local business owners in New Smyrna Beach sued for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act said settling the lawsuits is their only option because fighting in court could bankrupt them. The Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, is a federal law passed in 1990 and updated in 2008. It protects people with disabilities from discrimination in four key areas: employment, government services, public businesses and telecommunications. For businesses, there are a list of ADA regulations they must follow including removing barriers and proving access, such as ramps, accessible restrooms and lowered service counters…
No, guests with disabilities aren’t skipping lines at Disney parks
December 11, 2025 | Source: USA Today
No one is skipping lines because of disabilities at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. It’s not a VIP tour. However, some guests may wait for their turn outside of a traditional, physical queue with Disney’s free Disability Access Service (DAS).
It’s one of multiple accommodations available to guests with disabilities, but not everyone with a disability qualifies. Here’s what travelers should know before visiting Disney World and Disneyland. DAS used to be for guests “who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment due to a disability.”…
Ivy League schools see explosion in disability accommodations. Special status includes more exam time, mom in classroom. Is the system being worked?
December 11, 2025 | Source: MoneyWise
College exams used to be a two-hour sprint packed with months of material. But now at some of America’s most prestigious universities, they’re turning into logistical marathons. And one of the fastest-growing academic advantages has nothing to do with test prep, tutoring or even talent. Professors say they’re struggling to keep pace as more undergraduates register for academic accommodations, especially at elite schools like Brown, Harvard, Amherst and Stanford. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 28.7% of U.S. adults have a disability, but on these campuses, the share is even higher…
Jack Fact — According to the CDC, more than 1 in 4 adults (28.7 percent) in the United States have some type of disability. 13.9 percent of U.S. adults have a cognition disability with serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions.

Almost a fifth of the largest 200 sets of chambers are not accessible to mobility impaired people, a Bar Council report has found. Accessibility varied according to the type of work carried out, with 38% of commercial and chancery sets being totally inaccessible but none of the general civil sets. A third of chambers (34%) provided full independent access, 17% ‘basic’ independent access, almost a third (31%) limited or restricted access, while 18% were not accessible. Almost half of the 200 chambers, 47%, provided no information about accessibility on their website…

The goal is not only to make them technologically skilled but also to build long-term self-reliance and establish Uttar Pradesh as a truly disability-friendly state. Disability rights are shaped by the narratives embedded in policies like the Accessible Canada Act and MAID
December 3, 2025 | Source: The Conversation- Canada
This year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities centres on “fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” The theme recognizes persistent barriers faced by disabled people: disproportionate poverty, employment discrimination, inadequate social protection and the denial of dignity and autonomy in care systems. In 2022, the disability rate for people aged 15 years and over in Canada was 27 per cent. Nearly eight million people identified as having one or more disabilities, an increase of 1.7 million people over 2017, when the disability rate was 22 per cent…

December 4, 2025 | Source: The New Times- Riwanda
The National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) has called for the urgent upgrading of both private and public buildings to ease accessibility, improved service delivery, and inclusive infrastructure. This call was issued during the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, held at the national level in Nyabihu District on Wednesday, December 3, under the theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” Norbert Ugwaneza, Vice President of the NCPD, noted that many old structures remain inaccessible to persons with disabilities due to their original design as well as construction methods…
How to build an AI that truly serves disabled people
December 6, 2025 | Source: Meer- India
Let me say this upfront: I’m not writing this as a theorist. I’m writing this as a builder. As someone who has spent nearly two decades living with a disability, building code with one hand, reverse-engineering emotional pain into symbolic computation, and navigating the fine intersections of electrical engineering, machine learning, psychology, and being human. I’ve seen the AI hype cycles. I’ve seen accessibility be reduced to checkboxes. I’ve seen the term “inclusion” thrown around as if it were an API call. But I’ve also seen what’s possible when constraint becomes canvas, when silence becomes signal, and when emotional nuance is coded into the very skeleton of a system…
On a wing and a prayer: A Swiss photographer’s journey to document accessibility in India
December 7, 2025 | Source: The Telegraph- India
Inside a hotel in Kolkata, Andrea Federico Santicoli adjusts the camera resting on his lap. The 61-year-old Swiss paraplegic photographer has spent the past several months journeying through India on his wheelchair, capturing moments most people overlook — not just with his lens, but through the lived experience of navigating an unforgiving landscape. For Andrea, what began as another solo travel adventure has turned into a mission. “Since my earlier visit in 2025, I’ve seen how hard it is to move around here with a wheelchair,” he says…
City unveils new accessibility plan
December 8, 2025 | Source: Swift Current- Canada
Nicole Spenst, general manager of community services for the City of Swift Current, says the municipality has completed a draft of its three-year accessibility plan, a document designed to meet the requirements of The Accessible Saskatchewan Act and guide efforts to reduce barriers across the community. Spenst said the goal is to identify, remove and prevent accessibility barriers while promoting inclusion in municipal services, infrastructure and public engagement…
‘I was spiked and I want venues to do more’
December 8, 2025 | Source: BBC- UK
A woman who believes she was spiked is calling for all venues to install lower bar areas to help more people safely order and monitor their own drinks. Chloe Docker, who lives with muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair, believes her drink was spiked while she attended a private event in August. She said the usual advice to prevent drink spiking, such as always buying your own drinks and keeping them in sight, was not practical for many disabled people. Trade body UKhospitality said customers’ safety was a top priority and venues had a legal obligation to make reasonable accessibility adjustments…

Making government websites accessible for people with disabilities in Czechia
December 10, 2025 | Source: Radio Prague International- Czech Republic
Online communication with authorities should be accessible to everyone by law, but in practice, this is often not the case, as Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková, the government’s human rights commissioner, points out. She explains that people with visual or hearing impairments face various obstacles when using government websites and applications. A data box or a request for a criminal record extract via the Citizen Portal is, for most people, an everyday convenience that makes life easier. But for people with visual or hearing impairments, such online services are often complicated or even completely inaccessible…
Disability advocates denounce cuts into Exo station accessibility
December 10, 2025 | Source: CTV News- Canada
Montreal’s main commuter rail and bus system, Exo, is dropping long-term projects and investments amid a financial crunch – and accessibility advocates are pushing back. The transit agency promised Quebec it would cut its spending by $600 million over 10 years, reducing its capital expenditures from $2.5 billion to $1.9 billion. To be able to focus on asset maintenance, Exo must postpone the construction of garages for electric vehicles and slow its investments in rolling stock, among other long-term investments…

Accessibility must become priority for House of Commons
December 11, 2025 | Source: UK Parliament- London
Accessibility must become a major priority for the House of Commons and be woven into the fabric of what it does, according to a landmark report from the cross-party Modernisation Committee. Following a significant inquiry into access to the House of Commons, the Committee today makes a series of recommendations calling for improvements to the institution’s physical environment, procedures, practices and communications. With only 12 percent of the historic Palace of Westminster – home to the Commons Chamber – currently step-free, and with a wider parliamentary estate made up of several buildings with accessibility challenges, the Committee concludes that disabled MPs, staff and visitors face unacceptable negative impacts…
Level Playing Field grows into international force tearing down barriers for people with disabilities
December 11, 2025 | Source: Calgary Herald- Canada
The idea for Level Playing Field probably began when Darby Lee Young — born with mild cerebral palsy and needing an electric scooter to get around — found it frustrating and isolating to find a place where she could meet with friends. She realized that accessibility was a problem for many in the city. Young was determined to get more people to understand the daily difficulties faced by others with disabilities. She had a front-row seat — and a ton of determination. Always a sports fan, she volunteered with Hockey Canada, the Olympics in Vancouver and competed in para-alpine skiing — all while discussing accessibility…
Advocates concerned about accessibility as Thunder Bay transit terminal delayed
December 11, 2025 | Source: CBC- Canada
People who advocate for better accessibility in Thunder Bay say the delay of the city’s new waterfront transit terminal is raising some issues for them. The project is expected to finish in February 2026 due to delays in receiving key materials. City officials confirmed the setback this week, and said staff will continue to focus on ensuring accessible service at the temporary transit stops on Cumberland Street North throughout the extended construction period. “While construction continues, our team remains focused on keeping riders informed and supported throughout this period,” said Amanda Nason, supervisor of Customer Care and Administrative Services with Thunder Bay Transit…

Built by the Romans in the 1st Century, the Verona Arena was envisioned for gladiator fights and ancient hunts of exotic beasts, repurposed as a Medieval marketplace and most recently functions as the venue of a renowned opera festival. In none of its previous iterations has the imposing structure been made suitably accessible for disabled people or those needing assistance of any kind…
