November 8, 2025 | Source: Yahoo Finance and HR Grapevine and Reuters
A group of Amazon (AMZN) employees has filed a lawsuit against the tech giant, claiming the company systematically discriminated against disabled workers in part due to its alleged use of artificial intelligence. Nine Amazon employees across multiple divisions and states filed a complaint proposing a class action in a federal district court in Seattle on Oct. 20. Their suit claims Amazon unlawfully denies nearly all medical requests to work remotely as the tech giant pursues its controversial return to office policy — and allegedly uses AI to handle accommodations requests…
Accessible sets aren’t ‘a luxury.’ A new film starring ‘Wicked’s’ Marissa Bode shows the way
November 10, 2025 | Source: Los Angeles Times
An accessible set for all requires intention. There are practical needs, of course — ramps for restrooms and extra-bright neon tape on the ground to better light up and mark cues and equipment for low-vision performers and crew members. But there’s also a need to weave accessibility into the production so seamlessly that it doesn’t feel tacked on or burdensome. On a sweltering day in June at the Van Nuys Elks Lodge, the cast and crew of “The Hog Queen,” a short film starring “Wicked: For Good’s” Marissa Bode, were doing just that: re-creating a drag show at a small-town Texas gay bar, yes, but also modeling what a set that puts accessibility and inclusion at its center can look like…

November 7, 2025 | Source: KUNM

The union that represents state public workers looked into disability access and Americans with Disability Act, or ADA, compliance issues for about a year. The president of the Communications Workers of America local 7076, Megan Green, said they found many disabled employees are considering leaving the state because they felt, quote, “bullied and dismissed” when seeking ADA accommodations…

America’s loneliness epidemic is even worse for people with disabilities
November 7, 2025 | Source: Cincinnati Enquirer
In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General issued a warning that America is facing an epidemic of loneliness, with health consequences as severe as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. That call drew national attention to a crisis that touches every community, and yet for millions of people with developmental disabilities, loneliness and exclusion are not only personal experiences but systemic realities. Policies, funding priorities, and even well-intentioned service models often reinforce isolation rather than dismantle it. In Cincinnati, the problem is close to home…

How a pharmacy student and her service dog improved accessibility at UNT Health Fort Worth
November 11, 2025 | Source: Fort Worth Report
It’s not every day that a dog earns a university student ID or is routinely found in a science lab. But Rock, a service dog for third-year pharmacy student Elizabeth Brownen, certainly has earned many firsts at UNT Health Fort Worth. He’s the center of attention on campus, Brownen said, especially with her classmates. “We kind of have a joke that he’s my service dog and everybody else’s emotional support dog,” Brownen said. “He’s really changed the outlook of the entire cohort, and they all absolutely love him.”…
Why curbside voting meant everything to me this year
November 13, 2025 | Source: The Des Moines Register
I am an Iowan with a disability. I have cerebral palsy. I’ve been privileged with good mobility for much of my life, but as I’ve aged, the cerebral palsy has affected my mobility significantly. I use mobility devices, and the pain and my functional ability differ day to day. I work for a disability organization that focuses on voting rights advocacy and other disability-related advocacy. Our team travels across the state to audit polling places, help local officials understand what true accessibility looks like, and build connections with community leaders to make the voting process more inclusive…

November 13, 2025 | Source: The Guardian
Former firefighter Gina Kothe’s right foot was crushed in an aerial-ladder accident during a 2010 blaze in Kingston, New York. After months of false hope and a failed surgery, doctors decided her foot would have to be amputated. She fell into depression. “I had a slight addiction to painkillers,” she recalled. “I would shower every three or four days, and wear the same barbecue-stained T-shirt for two or three days in a row.” Her recovery began the day her husband walked in holding a box she assumed was filled with Dunkin’ Munchkins…
Wisconsin mom of daughter with disabilities fears impact of expected Medicaid cuts
November 13, 2025 | Source: The Wisconsin Independent
Megan Lowe says that without Medicaid, she and her husband, Josh, would likely go into debt to pay for their daughter Norah’s care. In July, President Donald Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act into law, bringing cuts of around $1 trillion to federal Medicaid spending from 2025 through 2034. The cuts are predicted to result in a loss of the health insurance coverage affecting around 80 million lower-income Americans, including children and people with disabilities. Norah, 17, suffers from Rett syndrome, a genetic neurological disorder that affects brain development…

November 13, 2025 | Source: Slate
When reduction-in-force notices went out to hundreds of Department of Education employees as part of the shutdown, more than 100 of these DOE workers were part of the team that oversaw special ed around the country. They ensured resources got distributed equitably, and had been doing that since the ’70s. Now, they are simply not there. A court has put these firings on hold, but that hasn’t made parents feel much better. Pepper Stetler knows this well. Stetler is a professor who writes about education and disability, and her 13-year-old daughter, Louisa, has Down syndrome…

Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) founder Dave Thompson, from Old Hall, said his members were finding that many smaller employers wanting to hire a disabled person were still struggling to access the funding needed to offer reasonable workplace adjustments. “Even if the disabled person is the best candidate, they may not get the job,” said Mr Thompson, 67…

In an Oct. 17, 2025 decision, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario found Convergys Canada failed in both its procedural and substantive duty to accommodate Erik Burggraaf, who had passed all screening stages for a customer service role but was denied employment due to concerns about software compatibility with screen-reading technology…

Imagine passing through your school and using the change in texture from one wall to another to signal a transition from the math to the literature wing. Or the smell of honeysuckle to determine you’re nearing the garden. Or the sound of your voice to tell you this echo means you are nearing the biology classroom. This innovative school is one of many creations highlighted in the Design and Disability exhibit at the V&A South Kensington in London, on view through February 15th, 2026.
Curated by Natalie Kane, this exhibit aims to recognise the wide breadth of contributions that disabled people have made to the world in the form of art, ingenuity, and accessibility…
