SQL 7.0: Introduction

Course Specifications:

Courseware: SQL 7.0: Fundamentals of Querying

Software: SQL Server 7

Course length: 1 day

Course times: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Course Description:

Students will learn what SQL is and how it can help them query a database to answer business questions.

Course Objective:

Students will learn how to use SQL statements to query a database.

Target Student:

Students enrolling in this course should be familiar with the components that make up the PC, including input, output, and storage devices. They should also be familiar with concepts related to database structure and terminology.

Prerequisites:

To ensure the successful completion of SQL 7.0: Introduction, we recommend completion of the following MicroAssist courses, or equivalent knowledge from another source:

  1. Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Introduction

Delivery Method:

Instructor led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities. Each student is provided with a computer and a Manual. The manual is the student's to keep and makes an excellent reference guide.

Lesson 2: Introduction to the SELECT statement

  1. Topic 2A: An overview of the SELECT statement
  2. Topic 2B: Syntax rules you will want to know

Lesson 3: Calculating data

  1. Topic 3A: Aggregate functions
  2. Topic 3B: Column aliases
  3. Topic 3C: Performing calculations
  4. Topic 3D: Date functions

Lesson 4: Selecting specific rows

  1. Topic 4A: The WHERE clause
  2. Topic 4B: The ORDER BY clause

Lesson 5: Working with other operators

  1. Topic 5A: Searching for text
  2. Topic 5B: Logical operators
  3. Topic 5C: NULLs

Lesson 6: Grouping data

  1. Topic 6A: The GROUP BY clause
  2. Topic 6B: The HAVING clause
  3. Topic 6C: Comparing the WHERE and HAVING clauses

Lesson 7: Multi-table queries

  1. Topic 7A: Joins
  2. Topic 7B: Joining tables
